ABOUT THE ARTIST

* Genti Korini is the artist representing Albanian Pavilion - 61st International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, May 9 - November 22, 2026, with the project A Place in the Sun, curated by Malgorzata Ludwisiak

Genti Korini’s practice examines the ways history, language, and ideology are constructed through images, narratives, and acts of representation. Working across moving image, installation, painting, and objects, he draws on archival research, speculative fiction, and theatrical devices to investigate the mechanisms through which cultural identities are imagined and circulated. His works often blur the boundaries between historical fact and invention, exposing the ambiguities that emerge when collective memory is shaped by political, colonial, and cultural projections rather than lived experience. Rooted in Albania’s complex relationship to modernity while extending toward broader questions of perception and communication, Korini’s practice treats fiction not as an escape from reality but as a critical tool for rethinking it. By combining disparate visual languages and performative strategies, he constructs immersive environments where language breaks down, meanings remain unstable, and inherited narratives become open to reinterpretation. His work invites viewers to inhabit spaces where history, imagination, and ideology converge, revealing identity as an ongoing process of negotiation rather than a fixed condition.

Genti Korini studied at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, Romania (1997–2000) and earned his MFA from the University of Arts in Tirana, Albania (2001–2003). He was co-founder of the non-profit art space Bazamet in Tirana (2017–2024).

His work has been exhibited extensively, including Albanian Pavilion -  61st International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia,  with the project A Place in the Sun, curated by Malgorzata Ludwisiak, May 9 - November 22, 2026.
